FAQ's
1. Has anyone ever died while attempting to complete The Burpee Mile?
1. NO! That is not the point of this event. This event is designed for likeminded individuals to come out and challenge their mind and bodies. It is not a race. The are not prizes. I stress at the beginning of the event that if at any time an athlete is feeling dizzy, barfy, nonplus, etc. then they are trying too hard. Stop participating immediately if you begin to feel that your health is at risk. This event is for fun and not designed to be stressful.
2. Burpee Broad Jumps for an entire mile is impossible. Are there any other options?
2. ABSOLUTELY! While two-legged burpee broad jumps are considered the prescribed movement for this event, there are virtually infinite ways to modify. For example, single leg burpee broad jumps cover nearly twice the distance, reducing the overall workload by 50%. Other examples include one burpee followed by 10 lunges or one burpee and walk for a distance.
3. Do I have to do this alone?
3. OF COURSE NOT! Sometimes it’s more fun to tackle this event with a team! We’ve had teams of 2, 3, even up to 6 people rotating through the movements.
4. How long does it take?
4. Time cap is 2 hours.
5. What should I wear?
5. I advise wearing some sort of leggings, tights or capris. The repeated kneeling in the sand can sometimes cause abrasions. That said, many people have just worn shorts and never experienced this problem.
6. What supplies should I bring?
6. Water stations will be provided. You bring everything else you may need. This could include, but is not limited to: sunscreen, bathing suit/change of clothing, sweat cloth, sunglasses, hats, etc. However, I would advise wearing a hat and forgoing sunglasses because the sand can be a pain.
