"If you have a body, you are an athlete."

We all have an inner athlete that is the result of hundreds of thousands of years of evolution.

However, sometimes there can be a disconnect. It doesn’t mean that it isn’t there, but that it needs an awakening. The Burpee Mile is the perfect opportunity to spark your inner athlete while being surrounded by a family of likeminded individuals in an environment for physical and mental development.

All types of athletes are encouraged to participate. Whether you work on your athleticism routinely, or you are needing a boost to set you in the right direction, The Burpee Mile provides a safe, exciting, and fun way to awaken your inner athlete.

What is a Burpee?

From a standing position, lay on the ground. Then, stand back up and jump straight up, clapping hands behind head.

As it pertains to the Burpee Mile:

Instead of jumping straight up, broad jump forward for distance. Repeat 500-900 times until a distance of one mile is completed.

HOW

This can be a solo event, or a team event with a time cap of 2 hours, but most people are done within 90minutes! All types of athletes participate, from CrossFit to Afterburn to UFC Gym, MMA gyms to triathletes to distance runners to fun runners like Tough Mudder and Spartan Racers. All are welcome!

DOES IT

It is an out and back format: athletes head north from Hermosa Pier a half mile, then turn around and return. There is an aid station (water) at the beginning, ¼ mile ¾ mile mark.

WORK?

There are many scaling options; most people don’t complete this as prescribed. Here are some scaling options: rotate through burpees as a team (non-working teammates walk), one burpee and lunge some distance, etc
